Members present: Francesca, Amelia, Madeline, Ben, Poppy, Daniel, Hollie, Sophie and Mrs Stopps

Welcome to Mrs Gill, School Governor

Mrs Stopps welcomed Mrs Gill (Phoebe’s Mum) to the meeting. Mrs Gill explained that the governors are applying for lottery funding of £5000 to make a wildlife garden in the corner of the field. It would support the curriculum and could include lots of different areas including a pond. Mrs Gill showed a picture of how the wildlife area might look and an  enthusiastic discussion followed, with lots of good ideas from the Action Team.

Water Butt and Composting:

Mrs Stopps reported that the composting is really taking off. “Fruit waste” monitors (Madeline and Francesca) have been appointed and this is working very well. Parents are also bringing things in to compost and the bin is filling up fast!

Francesca had written a letter to the School Council, on behalf of the Action Team, to thank them for the funds for a water butt. The letter was signed by the Action Team and given to the School Council. Mrs gambrell is purchasing the water butt and it will be in use shortly.

The Nature Table School Project- update:

It was reported that there has been an incredibly enthusiastic response to this project – it has really captured the imagination of the children and all sorts of exciting and interesting items have made their way onto the table – carefully monitored by Mrs Milner. It is an excellent focus of interest for children and adults alike.

Eco Code:

The final copy was read and considered by the children following decisions made at the last meeting. It was decided that it should be displayed in all classrooms, and discussed in assembly, so that all children are aware of it and why it is so important in our school.

Nearly New Sale:

Arrangements were discussed for Thursday 15th May and it was decided that children would help to set up and sell goods. Madeline and Hollie offered to make a poster to advertise the event again.

Suggestion Box:

Ben returned the completed box to school and after the meeting located it in the front entrance. Mrs Stopps thanked Ben for decorating the box.

Any other business: The energy initiative “Slim your Bin” is going very well, with Mrs Clawson.  Energy monitors weigh the bins on Thursdays before collection.

The Date of the next meeting: to be confirmed.

Mrs Milner gave an excellent presentation on the Nature Table School Project, inspiring the children. It was agreed to send a letter to parents and children explaining the project. The nature table is to be located in the entrance where children arrive in the morning and the collection of items/objects will begin next Monday. Mrs Stopps thanked Mrs Milner for attending the meeting and offering to take charge of this exciting initiative.

Report on water butt and composting by Mrs Gambrell

Mrs Gambrell reported that the compost bin is now in use. She has been researching a suitable water butt and funding has been offered by the School Council, using proceeds from their recent cake stall. It was agreed that a letter should go from the Eco Team, to thank the School Council for their help. Francesca agreed to write the letter.

Action Plan for 2008 and Eco Code

Mrs Stopps highlighted relevant aspects of the Action Plan, so they could be incorporated in the Eco Code. The ideas of children from whole school assembly (23rd April) were considered and the Eco team decided on the final version of our Eco Code. Mrs Stopps will collate and bring to the next meeting.

Plans for Nearly New sale

This will take place on Thursday 15thMay, in the school hall. A letter will go out to parents to encourage them to send in any nearly new clothes and the Eco Team will sell on the day.

Suggestion Box

It was decided that a suggestion box would be a good way to take the views of other children in school into account. Ben offered to take a recycled box away and decorate it in an appropriate fashion and return it to school as soon as possible.

Any Other Business: none

Mrs Stopps thanked the team for attending.
