ECO Action Team

We have a thriving Eco Action Team made up of children, parents and  teachers. School governors also regularly attend our meetings, so they are well informed and aware of the strong “eco” ethos within school.  Everyone in school gets involved in Eco events and fundraisers, and children understand the importance of eco matters.
The team meet every three weeks and they work hard to achieve high standards in all areas of our eco work.

The new 2016/17 eco team will be elected next term and meetings will be held on Friday lunch times as required

Roles and responsibilities: All Eco Team members are responsible for the following, but named children have special responsibility for each task.

Turning off lights, computers when not in use: Oscar, Charlotte – reported that most people are being careful now and turning off lights etc.

Making sure taps are off, water saving: Lottie, Finn – Finn has helped some Owlets to turn off taps again.

Topping up bird feeders and bird bath: Chantai and Charlotte, helped by Sophie and Jessica . Feed has been freezing in feeders due to very cold weather. Children are continuing to put fresh seed out, and refresh bird baths.

Checking for litter in the playground: Oscar, Finn-  continuing to check and make sure the playground is litter free.

Fruit waste: all members for own classes – as planned. Bins need cleaning, so Chantai and Immi agreed to do this.

Meter readings:  Gaelen and Chantai will update readings with Mrs Sallabanks after the meeting.

Plans for Spring Term: Lottie’s eco competition idea:

To create your own bug home!  Deadline is Thursday 26th February, just after half term. Flyers went out last week and we hope that children will enjoy taking part in this competition at half term.

RSPB Birdwatch  report – a list of birds seen in the playground or on the field has been compiled. 12 species were seen during the birdwatch. Crows, blackbirds, sparrows, and wood pigeons were most commonly seen, but also 2 Red Kites were observed, not seen last year.

Guide Dogs to assembly 26th January -  children really enjoyed meeting and finding out about the work of these dogs.

Forthcoming events:
•    Waste Week  - will be during the week of 2nd – 6th March 2015.
•    Eco day? Mrs Stopps will ask if we can have an Eco day / morning during waste week.

Ofsted Statement

"Pupils speak with excitement about what it means to be a pupil at Titchmarsh.  The curriculum ensures that they encounter a wide range of interesting activities to broaden their horizons.  The school's faith-based ethos complements the very effective work the school does to promote British values.  Still more importantly, pupils' attitudes towards one another, and their generosity in helping others less fortunate than themselves, demonstrate their commitment to the school's values."
